Local SEO for Houston Businesses: Beyond Just Having a Website

How your website reinforces local SEO — NAP consistency, local landing pages, reviews, and structured data — beyond just existing on Google Maps.

A Google Business Profile alone isn't local SEO

Claiming a Google Business Profile gets a Houston business onto the map, literally — but ranking well and staying there depends on signals that live on the website too, not the profile alone. Businesses that treat the website and the profile as two disconnected things usually plateau; the ones that rank consistently treat them as one system.

NAP consistency: the unglamorous foundation

Name, Address, Phone (NAP) needs to match exactly — not approximately — across your website, Google Business Profile, Yelp, Facebook, and every industry directory you're listed in. "123 Main St, Suite 200" and "123 Main Street #200" read as inconsistent data to search engines, and inconsistency quietly undermines the local trust signal every one of those listings is supposed to build.

Local landing pages, done correctly

A business serving multiple Houston neighborhoods or nearby cities benefits from dedicated pages for each service area — but only if each page has genuinely unique, useful content about that specific area, not the same paragraph with the city name swapped. A thin page that only exists to rank for a city name usually does the opposite of what it's meant to do.

Reviews are a ranking signal, not just social proof

Review quantity and recency both factor into local ranking, not just star rating
